Removing the Door
Panels
Tools Required
-
Hex screwdriver
-
Door
panel tool
-
Small flat-head screwdriver
-
Replacement door clips
Step 1
-
Remove the two screw
cover caps below door handle.
-
Remove the two hex
screws.
Step 2
-
Remove electric accessory
panel from door. Do this by prying the bottom end out first and then sliding
downward. Be careful - there is a plastic piece that hooks behind the door
panel.
-
Unplug.
Step 3
-
Gently pull top of
tweeter mount (8-speaker system) loose, but don't remove. This piece is
attached to the door panel and can break off.
Step 4
-
Gently slide door
panel tool behind door and onto door clip.
-
Pry until panel loosens
(The rest of the pictures demonstrate the locations of the clips).
-
Unplug light and tweeter.
Notes
-
There is one clip
which will break. It appears to be designed as an indicator.
-
The picture of my
tool (though fuzzy) is actually a window handle remover. It works for me,
but I still suggest using a real door panel tool. They look very similar.
-
I suggest having a
new set of clips on hand. Even if none break, they just don't hold as tightly
as new ones.
-
When putting door
back on, line up all clips before locking the door in place.
-
For
those looking to put 6.5" speakers in doors, I don't recommend doing it.
The mount would have to be remolded. Besides, any good set of 5.25" 's
sound just as good, as long as you have a nice sub.
